The Columbia exchange was a very complex exchange system. It all started when Columbus sailed to the Americas in 1492. Once he realized that there were already in inhabitants, he took some food and vegitation samples and brought them to Spain. Spain then set sail to find this new land. Since the inhabitants of the Americas had not been exposed to any diseases, they recieved those diseases that the Spanish were immune to, along with new animals that they had never seen before.
Due to this unfortunate turn of events for the American Inhabitants, they were conquered by the Spanish and turned to workers. Some were even taken back to new Countries to become slaves.
The bad effects of the exchange were obviously the diseases and the "slavery", but there were some good side effects such as the introduction to new crops and animals.
