In science we dissected a frog. This helped me to better appreciate the job of a surgeon. When I was dissecting that frog,
I was nervous. I didn't want to cut something that I wasn't supposed to cut, or take out something that I wasn't supposed to take out. This is what helped me appreciate the job of a surgeon more. surgeons and doctors have to put up with all of the pressure, and knowledge, and still keep the patient alive. I now believe that I better understand what it is that surgeons do and since I understand better, I can now appreciate it more. I myself am thinking about becoming a doctor, but I don't think that I could handle that amount of pressure yet. Beside, you have to learn a lot more than you do for other jobs. But that, learning, Is something that I can take and start right now. When you see sopmething, All you are really seeing is light reflecting into your eye to create a picture. The process is very complex.
First, the light is reflected into your eye and passes through the cornea and the lens, which combine to produce a clear picture of the visual world on the retina. Like a camera, the picture on the retina is reversed, meaning that anything below the ceter mark is actually above the ceter mark on the retina and vise versa. The picture, at this point, is in the form of a electrical signals and is sent to the brain using the optic nerve. The brain processes the image transform it from eectrical signal to a picture, and allows us to see it. In class we are doing a project where each group of four gets assigned to an animal and they research it (My group got the plecostomus). After this project has been finished, we go to the zoo to see our animal. My animal was not at the zoo. My team and I looked for a very long time, but could find nothing. We did however find another type of fish. When we asked the zoo staff, they said that they did not know what kind of animal it was.
When we asked one of the staff members about it, they said that they did not have the animal there. Hmmmmm. This was very confusing, because all of the animals that were assigned were on a list sent to us by the zoo. Over all, the zoo taught Have you ever been outside after a rain storm, and seen a beautiful rainbow in the sky? Do you know how or why they form? If not, keep reading to find out!
When rain is falling from the sky, the little individual drops separate and reflect different colors. When this happens, we see the entire visible color spectrum! Once this happens, the colors automatically align In the right order! ROY G BIV. This is the order that you see the colors in. Red. Orange. Yellow. Green. Blue. Indigo. Violet. The colors are in this order so that they can merge together and become the beautiful rainbow that you see in the sky. The sky is blue because the particle in the air absorbs all other color and reflects the shade of blue.
Sun light shines "white" light. This white light is made up of all of the colors in the light spectrum. These colors are either reflected or absorbed by everything. If you shirt is chartreuse, it is absorbing all of the other colors and reflecting the specific shade of chartreuse. By these means, the dust particle in the air absorb all of the colors except for that particular shade of blue which it reflects. This is also why when the clouds block out the sun, things turn duller shades of color. If a certain amount of light cannot reach something, it turns a duller color OR black and white. I honestly don't know for sure why the sky is blue, but I will take my best guess.
I think the sky appears to be blue because the atmosphere absorbs all of the other colors, but reflects the blue. When light shines, it shine millions and millions of different colors, but in the atmosphere only blue appears. This is because the air absorbs the other colors that the light shines, except for blue. This is the same reason for the sky getting dark when clouds block the sun. When the clouds block the sun, the light rays can no longer bet through, causing there to be no more colors to absorb or reflect. Another theory is that outer space absorbs all of the colors except for blue --- which it reflects. In Antarctica, fossils have been found that are from animals that only live in a warm environment. This is because, the continents shift over time. At two different times, the continents formed a big super-continent. This super-continent was formed near the equator where it is warm. At this point - when the super-continent was Pangea still intact - organisms started to appear. When they were there, they could walk from Africa to Antarctica very easily.
Now Pangea was a warm climate because it was near the equator, this meant that animals that could only live in warm climates, could virtually walk to Antarctica and live there. They lived there for a while, then the continents drifted, this resulted in Antarctica moving north and becoming a cold continent. Thus fossils of animals that can only live in warm climates were found in Antarctica. In science, we are doing a research project on an animal in the Fresno Chaffee Zoo. Students will research the animal, make a website for that animal, and turn the whole thing in at the end of the year. Each student has something different to look up (ie. adaptations, reproduction, and human interactions). .My group got chosen to research the plecostimus. Despite how it sounds, the plecostimus is a type of catfish. I got the part of adaptations. This was very hard, because you are given a paper, and you need to find the answer to all of the questions on the paper. Some of the questions that I received were very difficult.
I could find close to nothing on the plecostimus itself, but I found a great website on catfish. It gave me all of the information that I needed to fill out my paper. I found this website on e-how. When I first started to look through websites, most of them were on pet care. Which is good for human interactions, but not for me. So I went to e-how, and there was all of the information that I needed. In science there are many discoveries that have been made, but if I had to choose one of them to be the greatest I would have to say the discovery of DNA. DNA is what shapes life, literally. It is basically the instruction manual on how to make you. If you take out DNAQ and look at it, figuratively, you will find that it is telling your body what you look like, and what special features you have.
If Rosalind Frankiln, the woman who discovered DNA, didn't discovery DNA, how would we know why some people are disfigured. When a person is disfigured, it is because of a pair of gemes are missing, or there is an extra one. if one is missing, then the DNA that would be in this gene is also missing. This would result in the body not knowing how the show you. If there is and extra gene, then this would result in your body being confused on how you look and trying to compromise resulting in a disfigurement. All in all, I would definitetly have to say that the discovery of DNA is the greatest discovery in scientific history. |
