Core (History and ELA)
Third and fourth period is CORE. CORE is two periods combined but it is still two classes English Language Arts (E.L.A) and Social Studies (S.S). My teacher for CORE is Ms. McAlary. Ms. McAlary is a good teacher she doesn't get mad very easily, She let's us eat in class, and most days we get T.I.G.E.R. time (ten minutes of silent reading).
You wouldn't think that we would like T.I.G.E.R. time, but we all do, and when she says that we aren't going to get it we all say "awwwww".
All-in-all I really like CORE It is one of my favorite classes.
Projects
CORE simulation: ROME
In class on some Fridays we do a simulation on what we have been reading over the past weeks. The first simulation that we did was about Rome. There were different places represented by two students. There was the city Rome represented by four people, two on each side of the class room to represent the east and the west part of ROME.. There was also Barbarians (I was a barbarian) The barbarians go in and kill everyone with their army and they eventually won the game.
CORE simulation: Africa
The second simulation that we did was a simulation of what it was like to trade while you live in North Africa. I was a North Africa trading salt with the Wangarans, through the kingdom of Ghana. The reason we traded through the kingdom of Ghana was because in real life the North Africans and the Wangarans didn't speak the same language but the Kingdom of Ghana spoke both languages.
We (the North Africans) had to climb over the "mountains" (it was just a bunch of desks put together with a big paper put across them). We also had to cross the "Sahara desert" (this was just a big piece of yellow paper taped to the floor). The Wangarans went to The Kingdom of Ghana to trade the had to paddle down a "river" (a big blue piece of paper taped to the floor)
